Nationally televised MMA event coming to Louisville
LOUISVILLE, KY -- June 3, 2010 -- (Business First) Bellator Fighting Championships, a mixed martial arts organization, will bring its nationally televised season finale to Louisville's Fourth Street Live entertainment district Thursday, June 24.
The event will be shown live on Fox Sports Net. Portions also will be shown during weekend highlight shows on NBC, Telemundo and mun2.
The fight card will feature two championship fights in Bellator's Season 2 middleweight and featherweight tournaments, according to a news release issued by Bellator.
Former NCAA All-American wrestler Joe Warren (4-1) will fight Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Patricio Pitbull (14-0) in the featherweight tournament finals. The winner will earn the title of No. 1 contender to face reigning Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto (9-0) in a title fight later this year.
In the middleweight tournament finals, Bryan "The Beast" Baker will carry a seven-fight winning streak into a match with Alexander "Storm" Shlemenko (29-4). The winner will be the No. 1 contender to face reigning Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard (25-2-1) in a title fight later this year.
The undercard will include six fights with fighters from Louisville, Southern Indiana and Cincinnati. Winners will be invited to compete in future Bellator events, according to the release.
This is the final event in Bellator's 12-week Season 2. Other events have been held in Miami, Chicago, Kansas City, Boston, Dallas and San Antonio.
Bellator's Season 3 will begin Thursday, Aug. 12, in Hollywood, Fla.
