Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K
Louisville, Ky. – September 10, 2016 – With nearly 1,200 registered participants, the Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under warm and sunny conditions at race start. Race participants started and finished at the Louisville Water Tower, home of Louisville’s drinking water, and followed a course that ran east and west on River Road.
Solomon Bennett of New Albany, Ind., won the men’s division in a time of 16:43.91, ahead of second-place finisher Patrick Hynes of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 16:54.95. Alissa Bennett of New Albany, Ind., won the women’s division in 18:58.76, beating Shelley Cameron of Louisville, Ky., who finished in 20:26.02. This is the second year in a row that a husband and wife won the men’s and women’s division.
In addition, more than 125 youth from the Kids Finish First presented by KentuckyOne Health program kicked off their half marathon training at the Louisville pure tap® 5K’s start line. The program was launched in 2012 as a pilot project between the YMCA of Greater Louisville and the Louisville Sports Commission to encourage local children between the ages of five and 14 to take steps toward an active lifestyle by training to complete a half marathon – 13.1 miles – in small increments. This year, youth from the YMCA, Louisville Metro Community Centers and the Shawnee Park Boys and Girls Club Shawnee Soles participated. The kids will finish their training on Oct. 22 at the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.

The Louisville pure tap® 5K is the first race of the Louisville Sports Commission Fall Runathon, a series of three fall running races that provides unique courses and quality experiences for runners and walkers. Following the Louisville pure tap® 5K is the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K, set to take place on Oct.1 in the Parklands of Floyds Fork. The Fall Runathon concludes with the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon on Oct. 22, which starts and ends on Main Street in front of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience and winds through the fall foliage of Cherokee Park, one of Louisville’s most scenic parks.
