Louisville, Miami to Compete Annually for The Schnellenberger Trophy

Louisville, Ky. – July 24, 2023 – Beginning this fall, the Miami Hurricanes and Louisville Cardinals will compete for a newly created trophy unique to college football – The Schnellenberger Trophy, which features the actual western dress boots, now bronzed, worn by Coach Howard Schnellenberger when he led both programs to national prominence.

The ACC designated the schools as permanent opponents starting in 2023, and the trophy will stay with the winning team each year. Louisville plays the Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., this season on Nov. 18.

Norton Sports Health 4-Miler Moves to Historic Iroquois Park

This year’s fall race runs through Jack O’Lantern Spectacular

Louisville, Ky. – June 21, 2023 – The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host the family-friendly Norton Sports Health 4-Miler walk/run at Iroquois Park on Mon., Oct. 2, 2023, on a course that winds through Jack O’Lantern Spectacular.

The event will start at 6:40 p.m. in Iroquois Park on the lower loop near the intersection of Iroquois Park Road and Rundell Road. The 4-miler will be professionally chip-timed, and all participants will receive a commemorative Norton Sports Health 4-Miler long-sleeve race shirt and a custom finishers medal.

Louisville Sports Commission Announces New Board Members 

Louisville, Ky. – June 20, 2023 – At its annual meeting, the Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) board of directors unanimously approved a slate of officers, committee chairs, and new and re-elected board members for its fiscal year 2024, which begins July 1, 2023. Officers and committee chairs were elected to a one-year term; board members were elected to a three-year term.

Leigh Ann Barney, president of Trilogy Health Services, was elected chairman of the board; William E. Summers V, senior vice president, chief community development officer of Republic Bank, vice-chair; Dr. Steve Hester, division president provider operations and chief medical officer of Norton Healthcare, treasurer; Sheila Hiestand, partner at McCoy & Hiestand PLC, secretary; and Philip S. Poindexter, president of Stock Yards Bank & Trust Co., immediate past chair.

Louisville Pure Tap® 5k is back!

This Year, the Race Goes to the Dogs

Louisville, Ky. – June 14, 2023 – The Louisville Sports Commission, in partnership with Louisville Water Company, will host the family-friendly, dog-friendly Louisville Pure Tap® 5k walk/run at Shawnee Park in Louisville’s West End on Sat., Sept. 9, 2023.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. at the pavilion in Shawnee Park, one of Frederick Law Olmstead’s signature Louisville parks. The 5K will be professionally chip-timed, and all participants will receive a commemorative Pure Tap® 5k short-sleeve tri-blend race shirt.

Five Outstanding Individuals Selected to Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023

Selections Represent Basketball, Football, Media and Administration

Louisville, Ky. – May 24, 2023 – Five individuals with strong Kentucky connections who have made outstanding contributions to sports have been selected for the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame (KSHOF) Class of 2023, representing the 60th anniversary of the KSHOF.

The announcement was made today at a press briefing at Freedom Hall by the Louisville Sports Commission, owners and operators of the KSHOF.
