Washington’s Shaq Thompson named 2014 Paul Hornung Award Winner

Louisville, KY – Friday, December 12, 2014 – University of Washington’s Shaq Thompson, a gifted athlete who has played linebacker, running back, safety and special teams this season, was named winner of the fifth annual Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse. The Louisville Sports Commission and Paul Hornung present the Award to the most versatile player in major college football.

Thompson and his family will be honored on Jan. 27, 2015, at the annual Paul Hornung Award Banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.

2014 Paul Hornung Award Finalists

Louisville, KY – Thursday, November 20, 2014 – Four offensive stars who perform double duty on special teams and a two-way “runningbacker” have been named finalists for the Fifth Annual Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse and given annually to the most versatile player in major college football. Paul Hornung Award Week 12 Honor Roll

Louisville, KY – Monday, November 17, 2014 – Pitt’s Tyler Boyd and Georgia’s Todd Gurley were named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll following the 12th week of the college football season. Boyd tallied 224 all-purpose yards as his Panthers lost 40-35 to North Carolina in an ACC contest. Gurley returned to action after a four-game layoff to lead the Bulldogs to a 34-7 rout of Auburn before suffering a season-ending knee injury late in the game.

Paul Hornung Award Week 11 Honor Roll

Louisville, KY – Monday, November 10, 2014 – A pair of two-way players and a standout wide receiver / special teams performer earned the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for Week Eleven of the college football season The term ‘runnningbacker’ was coined in Twitter-land for defensive stalwarts Myles Jack of UCLA and Shaq Thompson of Washington because they both also play in the offensive backfield. The duo prominently figured as two-way players in the Pac-12 showdown in Seattle on Saturday when Thompson tackled Jack on his first carry from scrimmage in the Bruin’s 44-30 win over the Huskies. Meanwhile, on the East Coast, wide receiver Jamison Crowder scored the winning TD on special teams to lead Duke over Syracuse as the Blue Devils stayed atop the ACC Coastal Division with an overall record of 8-1 and 4-1 in conference play.
